Home Swap Agreement

With Bron & David in Byron Bay, Australia

(Here is the agreement we used in our last home swap. Note this applies to our old address in Sydney, before moving to Byron Bay. Please click here if you entered at this page, and you are interested in a home exchange with us in our Bron Bay retreat.)

 

This agreement, between Connie [SURNAME REMOVED] and David Wood, covers the exchange of apartments in New York, New York and Sydney, Australia for no financial compensation during the days of December 22, 2002 and January 8, 2003.

We the undersigned agree to the following:

Apartments
Connie [SURNAME REMOVED] will loan the following to David Wood:

David Wood will loan the following to Connie [SURNAME REMOVED] :

Financial
No money will be exchanged for the use of the apartments.

Cleaning
The apartments will be cleaned (including linens) prior to the exchange.
The apartments will be cleaned (including linens) by the visitor before leaving.

Expenses
Power & water bills will not be charged .
Phone bills : Each tenant will keep a record of all calls except local calls, with duration of calls. Call costs will be estimated using information from the phone company, or a sheet of rates left by the house owner (which will come from the phone company).

Damage
Any visible damage to the apartment and/or it's contents resulting from the exchange must be reported and repaired immediately. If, for some reason, the repair cannot take place in a timely fashion the visiting tenant will be required to pay a fair financial settlement agreed to by both tenants.

Guests
We agree that the visiting tenant is allowed to invite guests to stay in the apartment with discretion. The visiting tenant takes full
responsibility for their guests actions while in the apartment.

VCR/Video Rental
We agree to leave our video rental card for the visiting tenant to use
during their stay. The user is responsible for any and all late fees or
additional charges as a result of their use.

Food
We agree to replace any food we might use in the other's kitchen to the best of our ability.

Keys
Two full sets of keys will be provided to the visiting tenant prior to December 22, 2002. (Except that David will leave one set on his kitchen bench for Connie's arrival)
Two full sets of keys will be left on the kitchen table when the tenant vacates.

Computers/Printers/Scanners
I agree to allow the visiting tenant to use my computer, printer and scanner (if available) during the exchange providing they provide their own paper, ink and/or disks. Or leave equal replacements or money to cover the cost of replacements for those used.
I agree to allow the visiting tenant to use my Internet Access account.

E-mail accounts must not be accessed by the visiting tenant.
If additional computer programs need to be downloaded they must be approved by the originating tenant. All files created during the exchange must be removed from the computer before leaving. No other information will be removed and/or altered from the computer by the visiting tenant.

Emergencies
Emergency phone numbers for the apartments and personal will be provided prior to the exchange.

Cancellation
If a tenant is required to cancel prior to or during the dates of exchange they will provide comparable housing for the visiting tenant. Each party acknowledges that this will most likely require renting an apartment or house, and could be considerably expensive for the canceling party.

Honor System
We agree that we will treat the respective apartments and their contents as our own. We will not take, damage or alter anything within the apartment with intention. We trust each other as we trust ourselves and can feel confident that our apartments will be in good hands during the exchange.

Keys
You should have one set, and one should be on the kitchen table (left by David and Sandra).

Video
Blockbuster Video is a 15 minute bike ride away. Cnr Longueville Rd and Burns Bay Rd. (ask)
Mention David Wood, and that you are listed on the account. May need to prove you are Connie.

Car
The Insurance document is here, so you can see any rules and limitations.
Keys should be right here too
Car takes unleaded petrol.

Linen
You should find fresh linen on the bed in the main bedroom, and a fresh towel left out.

Cupboard Space
You'll find some cupboard space up the end near the window. Also the top drawer of the dresser has been emptied, and the bedside drawer closest to the cupboards.

Christmas
Our friend Rob said he can't believe you are spending Christmas alone! He's invited you to spend Christmas with his family at Budgewoi, and his phone number is attached. He's a great guy from a great family, and you'll have a great time if you choose to go.
